Speed up your computer by removing unnecessary start-up programs
Computers slow down greatly when too many programs are set to start-up when Windows boots up as it uses system memory (RAM) and usually a lot of them are not required to run with Windows (in the system tray) to the bottom right. See 1.
1) See below for the icons I have in my system tray before removing ones that I don't need:

From top left to right - Windows Live Messenger, SpyBot, Weather Channel Desktop, Bluetooth Devices, Network Icon, an old version of MSN Messenger that I no longer use, Logitech webcam, Avast Anti-Virus, Soundcard Control Centre, Sound, New PC Studio, Power ISO and finally the icon in the bottom with the diaganal orange is Winamp.
I know that I don't need Weather Channel Desktop, Bluetooth Devices, old MSN Messenger, Logitech webcam, New PC Studio, Power ISO or Winamp to start-up with Windows so I am going to show you how to stop it from occuring. See 2.
2) Click on the Windows icon in the bottom left (Start). If you have Windows XP type "msconfig" without the quotation marks into the run box then press enter. With Vista or 7 do the same in the 'Search' box and you should see similar to the image below.

3) Click on the 'Startup' tab to the right of 'Services'. This will list the programs that start with Windows. See the image below.

As you can see there are a lot of programs there, a lot of which were not in the system tray.
I will remove the below as I do not require them to start-up with Windows.
• Adobe Acrobat
• Adobe CS4 (Software I use to create webpages)
• Adobe Reader
• Clone CD
• Creative SB (Soundcard software)
• DW6 - (Weather Channel Desktop)
See below to show more programs that start up with Windows that will be removed.

• Logitech QuickCam (Webcam Software)
• Messenger (This one is the old version as I scrolled to find out the file name to make sure)
• Microsoft Office XP
• Power ISO
• QuickTime
• The last two programs are Samsung PC Studio and Winamp
Now that I have decided all of the programs I want to remove I will untick them one by one, press 'Apply' then 'OK' See below.

I will now press 'Restart' and see if my computer is faster now. (I have saved all current documents apart from this webpage which I will do now)
I have now restarted the computer and have less programs starting up with Windows, making it boot up faster and quicker in Windows itself due to less memory (RAM) being used.
Below is an image of how my system tray looks now with the programs removed.

As you can see, I no longer have Weather Channel Desktop, the old MSN Messenger, New PC Studio, Webcam Software, Winamp, Adobe CS4 or Power ISO starting up with Windows as there was no need for them to start up.
